The Champion First Season Sire last year, Yarraman Park’s Hinchinbrook holds the same position in the second season sires division for 2015/2016 and added another impressive juvenile winner to his tally at Caulfield on Saturday with a fast finishing victory for Derryn.

Sixth on debut, beaten only a length and a half in a Listed race at Flemington back in March, the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig trained colt returned from a spell with a barnstorming win in the 1000 metre juvenile sprint.

Drawn the outside in the field of 12, he settled at the rear for Regan Bayliss and came with a late rush to beat Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview winner Sword of Light by a length.

"As soon as the gap appeared he took it and picked up like a good horse,” Bayliss said.

"His last 50 (metres) was his best and he’s going to make a beautiful miler in the spring - he’s a good horse in the making.”

Hayes and Dabernign have a big opinion of Derryn and will waste no time stepping him up to stakes company.

"The way he won there makes you think he will measure up to the better races in the spring,” Dabernig said.

"He’ll probably go to the McNeil (Group III Stakes, 1200m, Aug 27) next and then we’ll work it out. He certainly looks pretty smart.”

A $110,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Bylong Park Thoroughbreds draft, Derryn runs for a big syndicate that includes Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing in whose colours he runs.

Bred by Bylong Park, Derryn is the third winner for blue-blooded Lonhro mare Munhro, a half-sister to Group III winner Colour from the True Blonde branch of the Easy Date family that is noted for producing Golden Slipper winner Forensics.

Munhro was covered last spring by Group I VRC Australian Guineas winner Wandjina.

Derryn is the 12th two year-old winner this season for Hinchinbrook, who has enjoyed outstanding results this year with top class son Press Statement winning the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas.

Now retired to Vinery Stud, Press Statement was one of four stakes-winners this season for Hinchinbrook standing alongside Group II winning fillies Samara Dancer and Whispering Brook, Group III winner Flying Jess and unbeaten debut stakes-winner Manaya.

A three-quarter brother to Snitzel, Hinchinbrook has been fully booked for a long time at the increased fee of $38,500.
