Bogenhuber keen to come to town

Friday 5 August 2016, 11:56am

Leading Darling Downs jockey Skye Bogenhuber has been rewarded for her willingness to travel with a solid book of rides at Eagle Farm.

Bogenhuber won her fifth Toowoomba jockeys' premiership last season and is keen to expand her riding commitments to Brisbane on Saturday afternoons and to also broaden her base of trainers.

She rode a winner for Gold Coast trainer Helen Page at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday and also rode at the Gold Coast trials for Page on Tuesday.

One of her biggest fans is trainer Brett Cavanough who resisted the temptation to replace Bogenhuber with a claiming apprentice on The Monstar in Saturday's 1200m-open handicap.

The Monstar drops 2.5kg on his last-start second at Doomben with Healy Stakes winner Into the Red topweight with 60.5kg.

Trainer Kelso Wood has elected to use apprentice Josh Oliver's 3kg claim on Into The Red, meaning the horse will carry 57.5kg and give The Monstar just one kilogram.

"It was good The Monstar's original weight was well down with Into The Red in the field. But he is claiming now and we aren't," Cavanough said.

"But The Monstar isn't a kid's horse and Skye stands over him. She suits him very well and I am confident The Monstar will be hard to beat from the barrier (4) on Saturday."

Cavanough, who is training out of Toowoomba while his new Scone stables are being built, said it was likely The Monstar would head back south after Saturday's race.

"If he wins on Saturday he will probably be weighted out of Brisbane racing. There are some stakes races for him in Sydney or he might just go for a break and come back when we re-settle."
