Sold For Song to target southern riches

Sunday 7 August 2016, 3:12pm

Talented Queensland mare Sold For Song is set to make a two-state assault on the spring carnivals.

Sold For Song won Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes during the winter carnival and ran third in the Sunshine Coast Guineas.

She has been entered for the Group One Cox Plate in October but is likely to have a more low key spring against her own sex.

"At this stage she will head to Sydney on September 10 for a fillies and mares race and then she will have another fillies and mares race start in Sydney a fortnight later," trainer Kevin Kemp, who is based at Toowoomba, said.

"If she races well we will head to Melbourne where she will have two more starts in fillies and mares races."

Kemp said at this stage Sold For Song would be kept at distances around 1400m.

"One of the races we have chosen for her is on Caulfield Cup day (October 15). It will be a great thrill for a bloke like me just to have a runner on the day," Kemp said.

"I think on her ability she can be very competitive in both states."

The bargain priced mare, who cost only $2000 as a yearling, has won $348,000.

"She should have enough prize money to get into the fields we have targeted," Kemp said.

Meanwhile, premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan expects to have final talks with Australian Turf Club officials on Thursday to finalise his satellite stable in Sydney.

"I am hopeful everything will be resolved then," Gollan said.

The three-times Brisbane premiership winner is looking to get the 30 boxes at Rosehill now empty with Michael Freedman's move to Randwick.

"I will maintain my Brisbane stables at top level so it will be a busy time," Gollan said.
