Bayliss wins with only ride at Caulfield

Saturday 27 August 2016, 3:22pm

Apprentice Jake Bayliss has made the most of his only ride on Memsie Stakes day, guiding the Mike Moroney-trained Lord Barrington to an all-the-way win at Caulfield.

Bayliss notched his first Melbourne winner since returning to the saddle after a race fall at Sandown last month which kept him on the sidelines for two and a half weeks.

"Things have been a bit quiet the past couple of weeks but Mr Moroney's stable have stuck loyal to me and have kept putting me on and it was good to get a result for them today with my only ride," Bayliss said.

Lord Barrington was having his 11th start of his campaign and the gelding was never headed after crossing to lead from the outside barrier, holding on to win by a half length.

Bayliss said he thought he may have been having the day off after Lord Barrington drew barrier 20 and connections were considering waiting for a race at Sandown next week.
