A Canberra-trained horse which was one of four fillies bought in a $12,000 package deal has come out on top at Rosehill.
Highly Geared, trained by Garry Kirkup, won a 1100m handicap for fillies and mares on Saturday in a thrilling finish at $31.
She held off Alucinari ($6.50), who was closing on her inside during the final 50m with Zoumagic ($7) a long neck away third.
Kirkup said his eldest son secured Highly Geared as a filly as part of the four-horse deal.
"We sacked one after riding it about six times, the other two have gone alright but this is the best one," Kirkup said.
Kirkup said the seven-year-old came to racing late.
"She didn't actually race until she was four," he said.
"I don't think she was broken in until she was three."
Highly Geared has now banked more than $200,000 in prize money, winning eight times from her 20 starts.
