McEvoy to consider Guineas with Hey Doc

Friday 30 September 2016, 9:51pm

Trainer Tony McEvoy will consider backing Hey Doc up in the Caulfield Guineas after the gelding raced to a convincing win in the Group Two Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Hey Doc remained unbeaten from three starts this campaign, making his move wide near the home turn before sprinting to the front and defeating Land Of Plenty by 1-1/2 lengths with Kaching the same margin away third.

Hey Doc's win on Friday night brought up the first leg of a feature race double for McEvoy, with Don't Doubt Mamma swooping late to win the Group Two Stocks Stakes.

McEvoy said Hey Doc's impressive performance left him with a dilemma eight days out from the Group One Caulfield Guineas.

"I've got to sit down with the ownership group and work out what's the best thing for the horse. We've got some decisions to make," McEvoy said.

"The horse is thriving. I think we probably nearly have to go that way but as always I want my horses to do the talking and I'll be interested in what Luke (Currie) has to say.

"It was his first time at this level, first time at the mile, but he impressed me."

The Moonee Valley Vase over 2040m is another option,

Don't Doubt Mamma will be aimed at the Group One Myer Classic for her next start having claimed back-to-back Group Two wins.

"The Myer is her race," McEvoy said.

"This mare has just got a great winning culture."
