More To Gain team eyes 2017 Caulfield Cup

Saturday 22 October 2016, 6:01pm

Co-trainer Amanda Turner has her sights on next year's Caulfield Cup with More To Gain after the promising stayer came from second last to win at Randwick.

Jockey Peter Wells weaved through field in the straight to win Saturday's Capital Bluestone Handicap (1600m) by 1-1/4 lengths.

Sent out the $5 favourite, More To Gain beat home Balmain Boy ($5.50) and Happy Hannah ($5.50).

Turner, who trains alongside Mauro Poletti, said More To Gain would relish the 2400m of the next year's $3 million handicap at Caulfield.

"We may even stop now or may give him one more but I would love to see him in the Caulfield Cup next year," Turner said.

She said veterinary staff had resurrected More To Gain's feet by icing them twice a day.

"It was just a relief to get that out of the way because it has been a month of just going through all the dramas with his feet," Turner said.

Wells said More To Gain was still a year away from realising his potential.

"I didn't have to hit him today. He did it all under hands and heels. This horse is going places," Wells said.
