Ballarat Cup-winning apprentice Regan Bayliss has been fined and given a severe reprimand following his victorious ride on Pilote D'essai.
Racing Victoria fined Bayliss $1000 for using the whip on 10 occasions, five more than allowed, before the 100m mark of Saturday's 2200m race.
In handing down the penalty, stewards told Bayliss he had a poor record on whip-related matters and he had been well in front of the chasing pack.
Bayliss was also fined $300 for his celebratory gesture of standing high in the saddle before Pilote D'essai had crossed the finishing line.
The apprentice will be sidelined for 10 meetings as he begins a careless-riding suspension incurred at Sandown last Wednesday.
