English trainer Charlie Appleby has flagged a return to Australia this autumn to try to qualify Gold Trail for the Caulfield Cup via the Mornington Cup.
The Godolphin trainer made an impact with his team in the Melbourne spring including a second in the Caulfield Cup with Scottish.
Appleby has several horses in Dubai at the World Cup carnival including Gold Trail who won a 2400m-handicap at Meydan on Sunday.
"Gold Trail has got better physically year on year and we were very impressed with what he did on his previous start at Doncaster," Appleby said.
"He ticks all of the boxes for racing out here - a flat track on quick ground over a mile and a half is his gig.
"All being well, the plan is to go to Australia with Gold Trail. I haven't spoken to connections yet but we had it pencilled in that we would go for the Mornington Cup (March 25), which is a win and you're in race for the Caulfield Cup.
"The ground will be quick out there and I think he will be a useful horse in Australia."
