NSW bush trainer McCarney outed for cobalt

Wednesday 1 February 2017, 3:13pm

Country NSW trainer Garry McCarney has been disqualified for 15 months over two horses from his stable testing positive to cobalt last year.

Southern Flight and stablemate Head To Toe returned illegal pre- and post-race levels of cobalt after winning races at Narromine on November 12.

Both horses were disqualified after a stewards' inquiry on Wednesday when McCarney pleaded guilty to two charges of presenting horses on race day with a banned substance in their system.

McCarney, who trains at Wellington in the state's north-west, will be allowed to re-apply for a trainer's licence on May 1, 2018.
