James Doyle sidelined with injury

Tuesday 14 February 2017, 9:39am

Godolphin jockey James Doyle will be out of action indefinitely after a fall at Randwick in which his mount Pearls suffered catastrophic injuries and had to be euthanised.

Pearls was taken to the Randwick Equine Centre after Monday's fall with scans revealing she had suffered multiple shoulder fractures and could not be saved.

Doyle was thought to have escaped with a laceration to an arm but was later taken to hospital where it was confirmed he had a non-displaced fracture in his right hand.

A Godolphin statement said the English jockey, who was brought to Australia to replaced the disqualified James McDonald, would be out of riding indefinitely.

Stewards determined the incident was an accident and no rider was to blame.

Stakes-winner Pearls was a sister to Group One winners Helmet and Epaulette.
