Silent Sedition to run in G1 William Reid

Tuesday 21 March 2017, 2:31pm

Andrew Noblet has decided to run multiple stakes winner Silent Sedition in the Group One William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, believing it is the best option for the mare with a view to her main Sydney target.

Silent Sedition has only contested two Group One races and on both occasions she has been denied by narrow margins.

The most recent came in the Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 11 when she battled on gamely on the soft track to be beaten a short-half head by Heavens Above.

While dropping back to 1200m in Friday night's William Reid is unorthodox, Noblet believes it's the best path for the mare to ensure she is at her best for the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in Sydney on April 8.

Silent Sedition was also nominated for Friday night's Group Two Sunline Stakes (1600m) but Noblet confirmed she would run in the shorter race.

"She got back from Sydney really well and she's in super order," Noblet said.

"I didn't want to go to another mile race two weeks before the Queen Of The Turf or have another trip to Sydney.

"So I'll run her in the shorter race and keep the freshness in her legs and then go back to Sydney.

"There was the option of running in the Sunline on Friday night or going back to Sydney and I didn't want to run up there on a heavy (10)."

Silent Sedition is at $11 in the TAB's all-in market for the William Reid, with Spieth and Star Turn sharing $5 favouritism ahead of acceptances.

"Obviously there's some more seasoned sprinters in there and it's weight-for-age, but she's very consistent and tries very hard so she'll run well," Noblet said.
