Rebel Dane to stand at Swettenham Stud

Tuesday 28 March 2017, 5:18pm

Rebel Dane will stand the next breeding season at Victoria's Swettenham Stud but first he will attempt to add another Group One win to his record.

The Gary Portelli-trained seven-year-old runs in Saturday's TJ Smith Stakes aiming for a third win at the elite level.

Swettenham's Adam Sangster said he was pleased Rebel Dane would stand in Victoria where he has scored his two Group One wins in the 2013 Rupert Clarke Stakes and the Manikato Stakes last spring.

"The opportunity to access a dual Group One-winning sprinter is rare for Victorian breeders, especially the winner of one of our iconic sprint races the Manikato Stakes," Sangster said.

"We were keen to get the stallion for Swettenham Stud and Victoria and were delighted when the owners agreed."

Rebel Dane is raced by a syndicate put together by Louis Mihalyka of Laurel Oak Bloodstock.

"Standing Rebel Dane in Victoria was a natural fit as the horse has won his two Group Ones there and a number of Victorian studs expressed interest in him," Mihalyka said.

"The opportunity to stand him at Swettenham is simply a bonus as they are one of the leading stud farms in Victoria with a wonderful reputation and a well-established client base that will give Rebel Dane the opportunity for a successful stud career."

Plans are to keep racing Rebel Dane during the autumn and winter with Brisbane and Adelaide features among the options after the TJ Smith.
