Robbie Fradd ready to return

Sunday 23 April 2017, 10:26am

Brisbane jockey Robbie Fradd will make a timely comeback from injury at Eagle Farm as the winter carnival gathers momentum.

Fradd, who hasn't ridden since March 1 when a horse he was riding broke down and fell at Doomben, will make his return on Saturday.

He was able to walk back to scale but a later X-ray showed a broken wrist which sidelined him for seven weeks.

"I have been able to do a lot of family things but I will be glad to get back," Fradd said.

"I was able to ride four horses on the fast grass last Tuesday and I am back riding work.

"I will be right to go on Saturday."

Fradd was second on the metropolitan jockeys' premiership before his fall with 50 winners but has been passed by Jim Byrne in his absence.

His return is timely for trainer Tony Gollan whose other two main riders, Byrne and Lani Fancourt, will be suspended this week.

Byrne rode a treble at Doomben on Saturday to take his total of city wins to 58 and his Queensland total to 101.

In any normal season Byrne would be leading both premierships but Jeff Lloyd, who unusually didn't ride a winner on Saturday, is a long way in front in both.
