Two wins from two rides for Cahill

Saturday 29 April 2017, 1:57pm

Veteran jockey Michael Cahill is philosophical about his career after riding two winners from his only two rides at Eagle Farm.

A multiple premiership winner, Cahill originally had only one ride for Saturday's meeting on Morendi ($6.50) who won the Open Hcp (1800m).

He picked up an earlier winning ride on Punta Norte in the Benchmark 85 when Bec Williams was ill.

"That's racing I suppose. I had six rides last Saturday at Doomben and originally only one today," Cahill said.

"It seems to be the way I am at the moment. Most of the horses I am riding seem to be racing only every fortnight."

He is hoping to have plenty of rides for trainer David Vandyke during the winter and also is looking forward to some big things from Mordeni.

"He was having his first start in seven weeks and the connections think he is better on a dry track. But Eagle Farm is funny in that some horses who hate wet tracks can get through it here," Cahill said.

Trainer Darren Graham is hoping Mordeni will measure up to races like the Caloundra Cup and Grafton Cup in coming months.

Cahill can also expect to get more rides from trainer Robert Heathcote who was full of praise for the jockey after Punta Norte's win.

"That was a perfect ride from Michael and Punta Norte deserved that win," Heathcote said.
