Formal complaint lodged on Gunsynd result

Connections of runner-up Violate have lodged a complaint against the result of the Gunsynd Classic in which the rider of the winner breached the whip rules.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission has received the formal complaint about the result of the Group Three race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Dreams APlenty beat Violate by a nose after the pair went head to head over the final 300m.

Tiffani Brooker, who rode Dreams Aplenty, was suspended for seven days and fined $2000 for using the whip 17 times before the 100m, 12 more than the permitted number.

Brooker's offence was not detected until after correct weight was declared and Violate's owners believed they should have been allowed to protest the result.

Stewards received a written complaint on Tuesday afternoon which was forwarded to QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett on Wednesday morning.

The complaint involves the owners and jockey Larry Cassidy not being informed of their right to protest and then not being afforded that chance.

A QRIC spokesperson said Barnett would consider the matter and decide in what form it should be considered.

"The result of the consideration will be made public at a later stage," the spokesperson said.
