Opie Bosson sidelined until season's end

Star New Zealand jockey Opie Bosson is unlikely to ride again this season.

He was stood down at Doomben on Saturday after just one ride aboard the Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained Heroic Valour.

Doctors have told Bosson he was suffering a viral infection in his chest and he says he will have the next few weeks off to fully recover.

"I felt terrible. It was disappointing to miss those rides but there was no way I could have ridden," Bosson told NZ Racing Desk.

Bosson has won Group One races on both sides of the Tasman this season including the Rosehill Guineas on Gingernuts who will be set for the Caulfield Cup.

Chocante, who won last Saturday's Brisbane Cup is also back in New Zealand with trainer Stephen Marsh mapping out a Melbourne spring campaign.

"The horse is home now and hopefully it's all guns blazing for Melbourne in the spring," Marsh said.

"There are a few options for Chocante in the spring and we're certainly not ruling out heading to Sydney first.

"I will have a meeting with the owners and discuss whether we give him one run in New Zealand or head straight to Australia."
