Mulk defeats older maidens at Sandown

Wednesday 14 June 2017, 3:28pm

The Lindsay Park stable has added to its haul of two-year-old victories with Mulk successful against older horses at Sandown.

Mulk powered to an all-the-way victory in the Chandler Macleod Plate, a maiden race over 1400m, on Wednesday.

Sent off the $2.35 favourite, Mulk kicked clear turning for home to score by three lengths from Oracabessa ($5) with Redrouz ($8) a neck away third.

Mulk became Lindsay Park's 38th two-year-old winner for the season with the highlight Catchy's Group One Blue Diamond Stakes win at Caulfield in February.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes said the victory was pain-free and made up for the colt's second placing over the same trip against his own age a week ago.

"Last start he was a little more keen early and that's why he didn't finish the race off," Hayes said.

"Having that run helped and he dominated today from the front.

"We'll take him through the grades and I'm sure he'll be a good horse for the stable."

Damien Oliver, who rode Mulk last week and again on Wednesday, concurred with Hayes the short turnaround helped the colt.

"He relaxed a lot better in front and that helped him finish it off today," Oliver said.

The win moved the Lindsay Park operation to within one win of its personal best of 103 in 2006/07 set by David Hayes who is now the senior trainer in the partnership which also includes Tom Dabernig.
