Alizee set for grand entrance at Randwick

Thursday 15 February 2018, 4:50pm

Godolphin head trainer James Cummings expects class filly Alizee to shed her race rust with ease when she resumes in the Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick.

Already proven first-up after a successful start to her previous preparation, Alizee's solitary barrier trial before Saturday's Group Two 1200m-race for fillies gave Cummings even more comfort.

"She looked very strong storming home in a high-class official trial at Rosehill and since then she's come on and looks capable of running well," he said.

The Group One-winning three-year-old split inaugural $10 million Everest winner Redzel and Classic Uniform in the 1000m trial on February 5, and was the $1.85 TAB favourite on Thursday to dominate a 14-strong field featuring the return of Frolic and Chris Waller's unbeaten Charlayne.

"She's a terrific filly. She is very well treated at the weights and I feel she has improved a bit since the spring," Cummings said.

Alizee will be racing for the frist time since her third in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield in October, a fortnight after she claimed the Group One Flight Stakes at Randwick.

"It's going to be a strong race, which is great because it gives an emerging filly the chance to come along," Cummings said.

"I'm sure they're going to need to be pretty strong if they're going to be matching motors with Alizee."

Cummings also welcomes back four-year-old mare Raiment from a long break for the Group Three Triscay Stakes (1200m).

Raiment last raced when unplaced in the Group Two Dane Ripper Stakes at Doomben in June and has had three barrier trials in preparation for her return.
