Wild Ruler stakes Everest claims with win

Saturday 10 October 2020, 2:48pm

The door has been left ajar for Wild Ruler to take the final spot in The Everest after he outclassed his Roman Consul Stakes opponents at Randwick.

Chris Waller Racing remains the only slot holder yet to lock in a runner for next weekend's $15 million race.

Wild Ruler put his hand up as a likely contender and Henry Field, representing part-owners Newgate Bloodstock, says they are open to discussions about an Everest start.

"He will either go to the Coolmore or The Everest," Field said.

"He is an exciting horse."

Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden won the first two editions of the Everest with seasoned sprinter Redzel before Yes Yes Yes became the first three-year-old to claim the race last year.

Paul Snowden will leave any decisions up to Wild Ruler's owners but says they have the horse ready to take his place.

"He's had a really good preparation," Snowden said.

"We've never done it before, obviously, but he is pretty tough and I don't think that was too hard for him today.

"It's a different year. Who knows?"

Wild Ruler ($1.60 fav) trailed leader Osamu in Saturday's 1200m race and quickly took control in the straight, cruising to the post to score by two lengths.

On The Lead ($11) got up for second with Doubtland ($3.30) another length away.
