Peltzer bounces back to earn shot at Bondi

Saturday 10 October 2020, 4:39pm

Gerald Ryan did not need to consult his owners to declare Peltzer would be back at Randwick in two weeks for a shot at the Bondi Stakes.

As a shareholder in the colt, who underlined his value with an all-the-way win in the Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Randwick, Ryan was happy to make the call.

"Too right. I part own a share in the horse, he'll be coming back for the $1 million," Ryan said.

Saturday's Group Two race was a drop in grade for Peltzer, who had been taking on the country's top three-year-olds and finished a competitive fifth in the Golden Rose.

"Today is the fittest he has been all preparation. I still don't think we've really got to the bottom of him," Ryan said.

"He will come back here in a fortnight and we will try him at a mile because that sets up the autumn for him.

"If he can't run a mile, we will map out a program for the autumn that will be back to the shorter races."

Peltzer maintained his perfect record at Randwick, where he has posted three of his four career wins.

His defeats have all been at his home track of Rosehill, a statistic not lost on his trainer.

"I've had horses not perform at Rosehill before and he's been here (at Randwick) three times now for three wins, so he might be a horse that doesn't go at Rosehill," Ryan said.

Peltzer ($2.70 fav) led and gave a kick at the top of the straight, holding on the score by a half-length over Prime Star ($3.70) with Jet Propulsion ($4.20) third.
