A mare that was headed for the breeding barn may have temporarily postponed motherhood after her upset win in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield.
Champion trainer Peter Moody, who won three of the eight races at Caulfield, said he would be on the phone to the New Zealand-based owners of Thy to try to talk them into keeping the five-year-old racing into the spring.
Starting at $21, Thy settled at the back of the field in the 1200 metre race before making her move on the turn.
She swept down the outside to score a comfortable length win over That's The One ($5.50 fav) with Dany The Fox ($7.50) another short neck away.
"She is a good quality mare, above average," Moody said.
"We were tossing up whether she went to the breeding barn or raced on, but she has a little bit more time up her sleeve."
Moody said he would encourage her owners to take the second option with the likelihood she could race in the Toorak Handicap next month.
"We have some lovely options there," Moody said.
Vlad Duric partnered Thy and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"She's an absolute darling to ride," said Duric, who had earlier combined with Moody to win the Listed Quezette Stakes on Kiss A Rose.
