Vandyke waits on Premier's Cup dropouts

Friday 30 August 2013, 2:45pm

Trainer David Vandyke is sweating on scratchings so spring prospect Prince Cheri can run in his preferred Rosehill race on Saturday.

Disappointed Prince Cheri could only make the emergency list for the Listed Premier's Cup, Vandyke also accepted with the five-year-old for a support race under benchmark conditions.

"If he gets a run, he'll be going around in the Premier's Cup," Vandyke said.

A stakes placegetter in France, Prince Cheri made an impressive Australian debut in winning a Sydney midweek race and resumed in similar order despite being beaten into third place at Randwick.

If there are no Premier's Cup withdrawals, Prince Cheri will start in the Ranvet Handicap with Kingdoms, a placegetter in last season's Australian Derby, among his opposition.

"He'll run well in either race," Vandyke said.

Less Is More will be an able representative for Vandyke if Prince Cheri misses out on a start.

"He met a similar field in the Winter Challenge and he should have nearly won that so he should figure in the finish."

Vandyke will also give another former French stayer Colour My World her first taste of Australian racing.

The mare runs in the Australian Turf Club Handicap after winning four of her eight starts in France.

"She's first-up over 1900 metres but she has certainly shown us she is a stayer just by her action and on the way she recovers from her trackwork," Vandyke said.
