Bodega Negra's last-start flop in the Stan Fox Stakes hasn't shaken trainer Bruce Hill's faith in the gelding.
Hill said Bodega Negra wasn't suited chasing the leader Aussies Love Sport in the Group Two race and weakened to finish last, beaten nearly eight lengths, in the six-horse field at Rosehill on September 28.
"Our plan was to settle further back in the race but he ended up doing too much work," Hill said.
"It didn't take anything out of him which was pleasing and since he's been home he hasn't missed a beat so I can't see why he won't race well on Saturday."
At his previous start, Bodega Negra finished a close, and unlucky, third to Treasure Map in a 1600m three-year-old race at Doomben on September 14 when he was ridden by Kelvin Wharton.
"He dipped in the straight then he got on the wrong leg and Kelvin had a bit of trouble getting him back on to his right leg," Hill said.
"At the finish he got back to within a head of them and it was a big effort to get that close."
Hill said Bodega Negra's relaxed nature gives him the confidence the three-year-old will eventually handle distances longer than the 1630m of Saturday's Iona College Old Boys Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
"One of his best assets is his laid-back attitude and he's going to get a bit of ground later on which is a big plus," he said.
"In saying that, I reckon he's got enough toe to win at 1200 metres as well."
Bodega Negra is $6.50 in latest betting with the Tony Gollan-trained Tornado Miss the $4.50 favourite.
Hill said Bodega Negra's stablemate Teronado would spend another six to eight weeks in the spelling paddock before heading interstate for an autumn carnival campaign.
Teronado ended his last preparation with an eye-catching fifth to Aussies Love Sport in the Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Randwick on September 7.
