Trainer Kelly Schweida is hoping a conservative approach with Cape Kidnappers during the winter will produce a summer carnival windfall.

Schweida gave Cape Kidnappers a brief three-start campaign during June and July for victories at Ipswich and Doomben on wet tracks.

It was part of a plan by Schweida not to put too much pressure on the six-year-old's troublesome legs.

"He cracked a sesamoid bone right through 18 months ago so I didn't want to push him too hard last prep," Schweida said.

Because of his sesamoid injury, Cape Kidnappers has started only eight times for six wins and is rated by Schweida as one of the most courageous horses he has trained.

The Keith Noud Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm in November and the George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Doomben in December are races Schweida will consider for Cape Kidnappers if his form is good enough.

The son of Commands will carry topweight of 59kg and start from barrier one in Saturday's T & J Whitehouse Plate (1010m) at Doomben.

Schweida is aiming to qualify Totally Sure, the $1.45 favourite for the Men Of League Handicap (1110m), for the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.

"If she'd won her first start she would nearly have been qualified for the Millions but she's only got $10,000 which wouldn't get her in it so we had to go one more time," he said.

"I haven't done a lot with her, just trying to keep her ticking over, but she certainly hasn't gone backwards and a repeat of her last effort would make her hard to beat."

Schweida will also be represented by Octane Flyer who is resuming in the River Junction Droughtmasters Handicap (1110m).

"The three-year-old races haven't been that strong lately but as soon as I nominate they jump out of trees," he said.

"This is a high-class race and some of those other horses like Enquare, Whiskey Allround and Vo Heart can run a bit."

Octane Flyer pleased Schweida with his winter carnival form including a close sixth to Romantic Touch, with Zoustar the runner-up, in the Group One J J Atkins (1600m) after racing three deep without cover throughout the race.
