Jockey John Keating has made a marked improvement as his recovery from head injuries suffered in a race fall continues in a Melbourne hospital.

After falling in a race at Kyneton on February 1, Keating spent about 10 days in the intensive care unit at the Alfred Hospital.

The Victorian Jockeys Association said on Monday that Keating had shown great improvement in both his speech and movement but still faced a lengthy period of rehabilitation.
