The fact Air Of Mystique is part of a terrific family won't force trainers Bart and James Cummings to rush her into stakes company.
Air Of Mystique is a half-sister to the six-time Group One winner Desert War while another half-brother Laser Hawk won the Group One Rosehill Guineas in 2012.
Air Of Mystique had two unplaced runs last year for her previous trainer Gai Waterhouse but James Cummings said he and his famous grandfather would assess their plans after Wednesday's Melbourne Cup Tour in Bendigo Maiden Plate (1400m).
"We'll just cross one bridge at a time with her," the younger Cummings said.
"She could very well measure up but she has got a lot left to prove and has to build on the promise she has shown."
The four-year-old mare is a daughter of Street Cry, the sire of the 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, and Cummings said Air Of Mystique has had plenty of time to mature.
Cummings said the stable has allowed Air Of Mystique to build up to her first start in 11 months slowly but she has had two quiet jump-outs at Flemington.
"Being by Street Cry, she's bred to get out over a trip and she has had plenty of time," Cummings said.
"Gooree just wanted to give her as much time as they could. The family are very good as late-maturing types and they have done that with her even though she had some racing early on.
"We've had her in work for a bit over 2-1/2 months and she has been down in Melbourne for a couple of nice jump-outs and hasn't been knocked around."
Experienced jockey Steven King has ridden Air Of Mystique during her time in Melbourne and will be aboard at Bendigo.
King won the 1991 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups for Bart Cummings on Let's Elope.
