Kennewell in wait-and-see for Thiamandi

Tuesday 12 August 2014, 2:03pm

Thiamandi will be in action at Caulfield on Saturday but not even trainer Lloyd Kennewell knows which race the mare will contest.

Thiamandi scored an upset win in the Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield on July 26 at her first attempt at 1200m, providing Kennewell with multiple options for her next start.

Kennewell has entered Thiamandi for the Listed Regal Roller Stakes over 1200m while he could test the sprinter over 1400m in the Group Two PB Lawrence Stakes.

The Adelaide trainer said he would wait until just before acceptances close on Wednesday to decide which race Thiamandi will run in.

"It's a tricky one because we think she would be competitive in either race so we're going to leave it until tomorrow morning to decide," Kennewell said.

"I really think she can win the 1200 (Regal Roller Stakes) and she might be able to win the 1400 (Lawrence Stakes) but I know she's spot-on for the shorter race."

Thiamandi pleased Kennewell with her work over 1000m at Morphettville on Tuesday morning with Saturday's jockey Joe Bowditch aboard.

Kennewell said Thiamandi's gallop would be enough for both races.

Thiamandi would tackle triple Group One winner Moment Of Change on his favourite Caulfield track if she competed in the Regal Roller Stakes.

Moment Of Change would give Thiamandi 8kg which trainer Peter Moody said would be his charge's lead-up run to the Group One Memsie Stakes on August 30.

"He's got a good horse's weight and this one will just blow the cobwebs off for the Memsie, Moody told Racing Victoria.

"The way I'm approaching it is, if they don't beat him Saturday they're going to have trouble (beating him) in the Memsie."

Moment Of Change has had two jump-outs while the six-year-old galloped strongly at Caulfield on Tuesday.
