A virus has sidelined Golden Slipper winner Mossfun but trainer Michael Hawkes is expecting the San Domenico Stakes to confirm there is enough depth among the stable's three-year-olds to cover her loss in the short-term.

Mossfun's training has been eased, putting an end to any chance of an early spring clash with Earthquake, the Godolphin filly she defeated in this year's Golden Slipper.

"Unfortunately she's had a bit of a temperature ... which sort of puts a bit of a bleak picture on her program," Hawkes told Sky Sports Radio.

"We've decided to do the right thing by her and give her a short break."

Hawkes said the Coolmore Stud Stakes, a Group One sprint for three-year-olds run on the first day of the Melbourne Cup carnival, could still be a target for the filly.

In Mossfun's absence, Hawkes Racing will be hoping to strike in the first Sydney Group race for three-year-olds for the new season.

The training partnership has nominated Nostradamus and Bugatty for the Group Three San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Both colts are resuming but they will go into the 1100-metre scamper as barrier trial winners.

Nostradamus is the most recent of the pair to trial, having defeated Golden Slipper placegetter Bring Me The Maid in a Hawkesbury hit-out on Monday.

It was his first public appearance since finishing midfield in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

"At this stage he has pulled up really well and all going we'll accept for Saturday for the San Domenico," Hawkes said.

Described by Hawkes as "a casual customer", Nostradamus did more than he was asked of by jockey James McDonald after making the running over the 760-metre dash.

Nine San Domenico entries became 10 on Tuesday with the late inclusion of promising filly Hallowed Crown for Bart and James Cummings.

Hallowed Crown was given a light two-year-old season, winning both her starts after graduating from a midweek victory to stakes success during The Championships.
