Gollan's Trakstar to rebound at Doomben

Thursday 28 August 2014, 12:07pm

Promising galloper Trakstar has emerged unscathed from a nasty incident at his last start and will take his place at Doomben on Saturday.

Trakstar started favourite in a 1600m race at Eagle Farm three weeks ago but was severely checked as he attempted a rails run near the 250m mark, eventually finishing sixth.

Trainer Tony Gollan feared the horse may have been injured in the incident and was relieved when Trakstar was given a subsequent veterinary clearance.

"How he stayed up I don't know but he has escaped any injury and has had three weeks to get over that run," Gollan said.

Tegan Harrison, fresh from being declared champion Queensland apprentice last season, will take over from Ryan Wiggins on Trakstar in the Courier Mail Qld Taste Handicap (1615m) on Saturday.

Gollan said he would instruct Harrison to let Trakstar settle where he was comfortable and not be urged forward from the start.

"Hopefully he will be able to get clear and run on. That's the way he races best," Gollan said.

Gollan has a relatively small representation at Doomben although he is excited about the return of Gundy Spirit in the Sky International Handicap.

"This is our third go to get him to the races. We have had to scratch him the previous two Saturdays because of wet tracks," Gollan said.

Gundy Spirit hasn't raced since he was well beaten in a feature three-year-old race at the Gold Coast in March.

"But he won a trial well recently and I have been looking forward to getting him to the races. Let's hope the rain stays away this week," Gollan said.

Meanwhile, Gollan is still debating whether to give unbeaten filly Pienkna another run in Brisbane in two weeks or send her to Melbourne for a race at Flemington.

"She is also entered for the Blue Sapphire in October," Gollan said.

"But it is her first preparation and I don't know about travelling her. She's a Magic Millions filly and there is also the Sydney autumn coming up.

"I am in no rush because whatever I do, I want to ensure it is best for her."

Three of Gollan's Melbourne team - Alma's Fury, Temple Of Boom and Looks Like The Cat - had jump outs on Tuesday and pleased the premier trainer.
