Dissident favourite to add another G1 win

Dissident is in line for a Group One windfall on the back of changes to Melbourne's early-spring racing program.

The Peter Moody-trained four-year-old is a $2.90 favourite to add Saturday's Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington to his first-up victory in the Memsie Stakes.

It is only the second year both races have enjoyed Group One status and the first time they have been held more than a week apart.

The Makybe Diva Stakes meeting figured in a scheduling switch this spring, creating a two-week gap between the Memsie and the Flemington Group One.

Dissident returned from a spell with a dominant win in the Memsie, ensuring his spot at the top of markets for Saturday's 1600m race despite the presence of mile specialist Boban ($4.40).

Boban was trapped three-wide during the run when fifth in the Memsie and his third-up record over the distance indicates he is capable of turning the tables.

The Chris Waller-trained galloper won the Epsom Handicap at his third run from a spell last spring during an unbeaten campaign which also netted Group One success over the Flemington mile in the Emirates Stakes.

In the autumn, he bounced back from defeats at his first two campaign starts for a third-up win in the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm.

Waller's Melbourne stable representative Justine Hales said Boban had pulled up well from the Memsie Stakes ahead of his shot at winning a fourth Group One mile race.

"He's tightened up a bit in condition. He's lost a couple of kilos," Hales said.

"He's come on well and he looks bright. He was second-up at Caulfield last start and he's looking good this weekend for the mile."

Puissance De Lune, runner-up in the race last year, sits on the third line of betting at $5.50 as he strives to claim his maiden Group One success.

The 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon resumes along with his Caulfield Cup winning stablemate Fawkner.

Robbie Laing has accepted with lightly raced four-year-old Don Doremo who finished strongly to win a benchmark race at Cranbourne last start but rises steeply in class and is the outsider of the field at $41.
