Chad Schofield has emerged as the winner in a racetrack battle between father and son in the Spring Is The Season Handicap at Flemington.
In his first meeting back after a three-week suspension, 20-year-old Schofield partnered Brambles to a half-head victory over Big Memory who was ridden by the young jockey's father Glyn.
"I reckon that's the best finish we have fought out," Chad said.
The win was a satisfying moment for connections of 2012 Queensland Derby winner Brambles who spent two years off the scene after his Derby success because of tendon injuries.
He returned for a winter campaign in Melbourne and notched his first win since his Derby victory on Saturday.
"A lot of people behind the scenes have done a huge amount of work with this horse in the past two years," trainer Peter Moody's stable representative Jeff O'Connor said.
"It's great to see him back winning. And we can aim a little bit higher again, maybe."
Brambles is likely to head to the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley for his next start.
