Godolphin celebrates early stakes double

Saturday 27 September 2014, 3:01pm

Godolphin filly Abduction has delivered an early stakes double for John O'Shea at Rosehill but is unlikely to back up in next week's Group One Flight Stakes.

Like stablemate Sweynesse who came from last to win Saturday's Gloaming Stakes, Abduction was ridden quietly by Kerrin McEvoy before she was produced late to overhaul Candelara and win the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m).

O'Shea was lukewarm about taking on top fillies First Seal and Winx in the Flight Stakes and while he hasn't completely ruled it out he says Melbourne is a more likely option.

Abduction could follow a similar path to O'Shea's former galloper Gypsy Diamond who was unplaced in the Reginald Allen and Thousand Guineas last spring before winning a Group Two fillies race at Moonee Valley.

"We'll see where she fits in when we get home but it's nice to get some black type for that wonderful family," O'Shea said.

"I might put her on the same path as Gypsy Diamond. She's got similar formlines so we'll see what happens."

Abduction, a daughter of Street Cry, is not nominated for the Thousand Guineas but Godolphin has the option of paying a late entry fee to run and O'Shea confirmed he would look at that race.
