Mornington meeting abandoned due to wind

Tuesday 30 September 2014, 4:33pm

High winds have forced a race meeting at Mornington to be abandoned.

Racing Victoria stewards called off Tuesday's meeting after three races.

"We just don't think it's safe to progress at this stage," steward Robert Cram told TVN.

Cram said winds were over 80km/h around the back of the course.

He added they were unable to guarantee that the running rail would stay upright, with particular concerns over the stability of the rail in three areas.

"We've been in contact with the weather bureau and they have advised us that the winds would only mildly abate right through to the evening here at Mornington," Cram said.
