Keys proud of Rich Enuff in Guineas defeat

Saturday 11 October 2014, 6:48pm

Trainer Ken Keys was philosophical following the defeat of odds-on favourite Rich Enuff in the Caulfield Guineas.

Trying to capture his first Group One victory after 30 years of training, Keys had his best chance snatched away from him by Sydney three-year-old Shooting To Win.

Rich Enuff was backed from $2 to $1.80 favouritism and went down by a neck in the Group One race over 1600m.

The son of Written Tycoon was forced to work in taking up the lead in the early stages and got little respite from the pressure.

"The only part that you can be disappointed in is that we didn't win," Keys said.

"We'll go home, regroup and have a another crack at one."

Keys will see how Rich Enuff pulls up from his tough run before deciding on whether to push ahead to the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on November 1.

Jockey Michael Rodd said Rich Enuff didn't travel as well as he did in winning the Guineas Prelude on September 28 but was still full of praise for his effort.

"He never switched off the whole race," Rodd said.
