Feature sprints on radar for In Cahoots

Wednesday 15 October 2014, 6:20pm

In Cahoots, who has come up against some of the most promising sprinters in the country this spring, has had his moment in the sun at Caulfield.

His victory in Wednesday's Italktravel Stakes (1200m) has set up a shot at the Group Two Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington on November 1 and a potential trip to Perth for the Group One Winterbottom Stakes later that month.

Phillip Atkins, who trains In Cahoots at Newcastle in NSW, said the Perth trip was an option he was considering.

"We've been invited to Perth for the Winterbottom Stakes. We'll wait until after Derby Day and make a decision," Atkins said.

In Cahoots, winner of this year's Gosford Guineas over Chautauqua on a heavy track, was second to Terravista in the Show County Quality first-up in Sydney.

He then finished third behind Chautauqua in the Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington with Group One winner Temple Of Boom second.

The four-year-old was narrowly beaten at Caulfield last start in Listed grade, but was not going to be denied this time.

Sent out the $2.90 favourite, In Cahoots settled just behind the speed before picking up the leader Adamantium to win by three-quarters of a length with Eclair Big Bang a luckless third, another nose away.

"He went that well up the straight the first time, we're going to give him another go," Atkins said, looking towards In Cahoot's next start.

"He's not that far off the top horses. It wouldn't surprise me if in 12 months time he was in the top grade."
