Following an aborted transfer to Hong Kong, Star Fashion has made it back-to-back victories at Caulfield.

A brilliant ride by Michael Walker helped the mare take out Wednesday's Group Three Ladies' Day Vase over 1600m.

Following a first-up win at Caulfield on September 20, Star Fashion was sent out a $15 chance and got a run up the rails to score a half-length victory over Lady Cumquat ($5.50) with Suavito ($4.60) and unlucky third, a length further back.

The victory supplied co-trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, and Walker, with a winning double after they took out the opening race with Rawnaq.

Star Fashion is owned in Hong Kong by Oliver Wong and was due to head to leading trainer John Size at the end of her three-year-old campaign after finishing sixth in Queensland Oaks in May.

The daughter of Street Cry was in quarantine awaiting transfer to Hong Kong when she failed a veterinary examination.

"She failed a vet on an issue with her breathing," Dabernig said.

"It's never affected her in a race, she's never had a surgery and she races in a tongue tie."

With Wednesday's Group Three victory behind her, Star Fashion will be given the chance at Group One glory in the Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 1.

After that she may back up in the Group Two Matriarch Stakes (2000m) on the final day of the Flemington carnival.

"We've always thought that she's capable of competing at Group level," Dabernig said.

"She's got a fantastic pedigree and she was thereabouts as a three-year-old and she's really clicked now.

"It was a terrific ride. Michael's really riding with his tail up today."

Walker said he was enjoying riding for the Hayes and Dabernig combination and splitting his time between the Lindsay Park property at Euroa and the Flemington stable.

He also believes Star Fashion can measure up to Group One company.

"I'm just fortunate enough to be on nice horses," Walker said of his double.

"It's hard to do it when you're on slow ones."
