Kuro lives up to the hype in Brian Crowley

Saturday 18 October 2014, 4:08pm

Joe Pride has refused to be drawn into discussions on further spring targets for Kuro despite his first stakes win at Randwick.

The trainer was excited after the colt claimed the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes but said he would not make any decisions on race day.

Since joining Pride when former trainer John O'Shea went to Godolphin, Kuro has had four starts and won them all.

"He is a lovely horse who is not at his top yet and will be even better in the autumn," Pride said.

"We won't make any decisions about where we go for a few days.

"I was pleased to see him take a trail and then he was really explosive."

Blake Shinn settled the $2 favourite behind the speed and kept him comfortable to the turn before taking charge in the straight.

Time For War ($11) held his position for second, two lengths away with another three-quarters of a length to Inkling ($3.70).

"He is a high class sprinter and he took another step today," Shinn said.

"He has come forward mentally as well."

Things did not go so well for prominent owner John Singleton whose colt This Is Australia finished last of the 10 runners.

It compounded the pain for Singleton after Dear Demi had to be withdrawn from the Caulfield Cup with a throat infection.

"She is fine today but she had to be treated so she couldn't run," he said.

"She will probably go to the Mackinnon Stakes now.

"The colt will probably go to the paddock. He was disappointing."
