Dual acceptor Wine Tales might have been an afterthought inclusion for a race at Rosehill but trainer Chris Waller has made an early call on the promising filly's spring finale.
Wine Tales is an acceptor for the Cellarbrations Blacktown Handicap at her home track on Saturday with apprentice Lester Grace booked for the ride.
But Waller said on Wednesday the three-year-old would be scratched to take her place in the Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes at Sandown.
"If the Sydney race was being run in Melbourne she'd be running in that race," Waller said.
"Sure, I want a horse to win black type but I also want a horse to go through its grades as well.
"But the fact is she is down there, she's towards the end of her preparation and she can run there and then come home."
Wine Tales was one of the few near-misses in an otherwise outstanding Melbourne Cup carnival for Waller.
There was a significant amount of misfortune attached to her run in a 1400-metre Listed race on Melbourne Cup day as she figured in the stewards' report for not getting a clear run in the home straight.
Premier Sydney jockey James McDonald takes over from Tim Clark on Saturday.
Waller will still be represented in the Rosehill race with Lucy's Look certain to be one of the favourites after her close second at Randwick last week.
Her rivals will include Snow White, a full-sister to champion galloper Pierro chasing her third win in a row.
Waller has four runners in the Cellarbrations@Valentine Handicap - Permit, Lucky Chappy, Beyond Thankful and Reigning.
He also has three runners in the Cellarbrations Kingswood Park Handicap with Heart Testa and last-start winner You'll Never rated his best chances in first markets as most of his focus returns to his bid for another Sydney premiership after a successful Melbourne spring carnival.
