The Zipping Classic meeting provides Dwayne Dunn with a chance to overhaul Damien Oliver in the inaugural Spring Racing jockeys' premiership.
Jockeys and trainers earn points over 16 feature spring carnival meetings in Melbourne, culminating in Saturday's Sandown program.
Points have been awarded on a 3-2-1 basis for each race at the selected meetings, starting with Flemington on September 13.
Double points are awarded for Group One races, as well as Saturday's Group Two Zipping Classic, while the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup carried points of 12-4-2.
Oliver leads the jockeys' standings on 71 but misses the final meeting because of suspension.
Dunn is six points behind but has a strong book of rides including second favourite Spillway in the Zipping Classic.
His seven Sandown rides also include Rekindled Power in the Sandown Guineas, Like A Carousel in the Sandown Cup and Fast `n' Rocking in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes.
Spillway and Fast `n' Rocking are trained by the David Hayes-Tom Dabernig team which leads the trainers' premiership by three points over Darren Weir with Chris Waller another one behind.
Hayes and Dabernig have 11 runners at Sandown while Weir's five runners include Zipping Classic favourite Prince Of Penzance and Sandown Guineas favourite Stratum Star.
The winning jockey and trainer receive $25,000 with the same amount donated to their nominated charity.
There is also a sprint jockey, staying jockey and young rider category with each winner receiving $5000 with $5000 donated to charity.
