Almoonqith given 1kg penalty for Melb Cup

Geelong Cup winner Almoonqith has been given a one kilogram penalty for the Melbourne Cup.

Racing Victoria's Greg Carpenter announced the penalty on Thursday, describing the Lindsay Park import's Geelong Cup win as "dominant".

The rehandicap takes Almoonqith to 53kg in the Melbourne Cup and advances his position in the order of entry nine places to 28th position.
