Singo, Snowden up ante for Australian Oaks

In a week when the odds have shortened dramatically about John Singleton winning Sydney's signature horse race, the businessman is also looking good to land one of the turf's most prized Classics.

Singleton races Kiss And Make Up, the Gai Waterhouse-trained colt who burst into Golden Slipper reckoning with his Todman Stakes win last Saturday.

But Singleton's chances of winning the ATC Australian Oaks are looking just as bright after Happy Hannah looked every bit a Classic filly in her win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Happy Hannah's storming finish in the All Too Hard Handicap underlined her Oaks claims and doubled the hand of Singleton and the Snowden stable in the $1 million ATC Australian Oaks at Randwick on April 9.

Daisy's Joy was put on an Oaks trail after a midweek placing last month and they both share the third line of all-in betting as $11 chances.

Coming from further back than Peter Snowden had hoped, Happy Hannah, well-tried as the $3.20 second favourite, reeled in stablemate and favourite Falkenberg ($2.45) to win by a 1-1/4 lengths.

"She's very much untapped. I think there's a lot to come with her," Snowden said.

Another stablemate Falkenberg, a sister to Golden Slipper winner Sebring, is a $17 Oaks chance and Snowden says she has a genuine future.

"She's a lovely filly going forward and I'm sure it won't be the last you see of her," he said.

Glyn Schofield has been suspended for four meetings for careless riding on Yattarna in the Schweppes Handicap.

The suspension will rule Schofield out of the Golden Slipper meeting at Rosehill on March 19.
