Red Verdon to run in the Epsom Derby

Monday 30 May 2016, 8:36am

Red Verdon will be a late entry for the Epsom Derby with champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa to ride.

Trainer Ed Dunlop said owner Ronnie Arculli was prepared to pay the STG75,000 ($A152,361) to put the colt in Britain's premier Classic following his two wins this month.

Red Verdon races in the same colours as his late stablemate, three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux.

"The decision has been made that, subject to health checks, the horse will be supplemented for the Derby," Dunlop said.

"We still don't know how good this horse is, but he has a very ambitious and excited owner who is always up for a challenge."
