Arinosa was beaten out of the placings in the Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben on Saturday but jockey Brenton Avdulla was quick to defend her performance.
Sent out the $2.05 favourite, Arinosa was hard ridden by Avdulla approaching the turn but made up ground in the final stages to finish fourth to Sookie ($16).
Avdulla said the mare wasn't comfortable racing inside her rivals but he was impressed by the way she kept rallying.
"At no stage was she comfortable where she was and the race was over by the time she got into the clear," Avdulla said.
"Once she got room to move at the furlong she clicked into gear and really hit the line strongly."
Avdulla said Arinosa is still on track for her Group One targets during the winter carnival, the Stradbroke Handicap and Tatt's Tiara.
"The race didn't unfold the way I wanted it to today but I wouldn't be dropping off her for the future," he said.
"A bigger track like Eagle Farm over a bit more ground next time will suit her down to the ground.
"Today wasn't our day but it's onwards and upwards from here."
Sookie will go under the hammer at the Patinack Farm racehorse sale at the Gold Coast next month.
The three-year-old will be sold on June 5 with other black-type performers while her stablemate Peron, who won the previous race will be sold two days later because she has not been placed at stakes level.
Sookie's trainer John Thompson will continue to direct the filly towards the Dane Ripper Stakes and Tatt's Tiara.
"We'll push ahead as though she's going to run in those races and we'll just have to wait and see what happens as far as the sale goes," he said.
