Bumper nominations for Rosehill on Saturday could result in a 10-event card with the Australian Turf Club poised to divide at least one race.
ATC racing and wagering boss Col Tuck said the club would make a final decision on the make-up of the program when final acceptances are taken on Wednesday.
But he confirmed the ATC was open to adding to the eight-race card if the numbers justified it.
"We could potentially have ten races," Tuck said.
The club received 188 initial entries for the meeting but following a wash-out of the Warwick Farm meeting on Tuesday, Saturday nominations were extended to give horses who missed out midweek a chance to run.
It followed on from the abandonment of the final five races at Randwick on Saturday, also due to the wet weather and a waterlogged track.
While the lost meetings contributed to the popularity of Rosehill, Tuck said other factors had also led to an overall increase in recent field sizes.
"The numbers have been pretty strong for the last month or so, but obviously they're higher this week with the races put off after the third on Saturday," Tuck said.
"But there are definitely other factors like increased prize money and a few new trainers like Mike Moroney and Tony McEvoy setting up stables in Sydney."
Moroney and McEvoy have both nominated horses for Rosehill with Moroney's team headed by Listed Winter Cup aspirant Don Carlos.
The German import has raced just six times since making his Australian debut at Flemington in the spring of 2011 but turned in arguably his best local performance two starts ago when a closing sixth at Rosehill.
He couldn't reproduce that effort last start when he finished down the track at the same venue but he is proven in wet ground.
Don Carlos was one of 13 nominations for the Winter Cup (2400m) which is headed by veteran Fiumicino who proved he still had something to offer with his McKell Cup victory two starts ago.
Also there are Reuben Percival for the Gai Waterhouse stable, last-start winner Destiny's Kiss and Darley's Yulalona.
