Hot Snitzel could run in summer features

If not for Lankan Rupee, Gerald Ryan's Melbourne spring carnival would have been a whole lot better.

The Mick Price-trained sprinter has won two stakes races in the past 10 days, nosing out the Ryan-trained Snitzerland at Flemington and beating her stablemate Hot Snitzel at Caulfield on Saturday.

Ryan claimed a Group Two win with Charlie Boy and a Listed victory with Dothraki with veteran stayer Ironstein earning prize money for his sixth in the Lexus and fifth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

"I don't begrudge Mick Price because he is a great bloke but things would have been perfect without Lankan Rupee there," Ryan said.

"Hot Snitzel will come home to Sydney on Monday and we'll think about whether to keep him going or give him a break now and get him ready for autumn.

"There are a couple of nice races coming up. There's the Starlight Stakes over 1200 metres or we could step him up to 1500 and have a go at the Festival Stakes."

Plans for Snitzerland are firmly aimed at getting the mare a Group One win ahead of a possible trip to England for Royal Ascot in June.

A multiple stakes winner and a dual Group One runner-up, Snitzerland's spring was interrupted when she was found to have a respiratory problem after an uncharacteristic failure in the Moir Stakes in late September.

"We will stick to the plan with her which is the Lightning Stakes and then the Oakleigh Plate early next year," Ryan said.

"We will also look at the TJ Smith Stakes. There's a month from the Oakleigh Plate to the TJ and that's worth $2.5 million now so it's something to think about."

Ryan also has autumn ambitions for Saturday's Rosehill winner Koroibete who has been a problem child until now.

The colt's barrier manners have cost him but with the assistance of a barrier blanket he did everything right to win over 1350 metres.

"This preparation has been all about teaching him race sense," Ryan said.

"We don't want to go too far with him this time because there is plenty for him later on.

"I think he will definitely get 1600 to 2000 metres. Whether he gets the Derby distance (2400m) I'm not sure but we will give him a chance to tell us."
