Chris Waller looking ahead to autumn

The spring carnival is barely over but already leading trainer Chris Waller is plotting the autumn paths for his established stars and up-and-comers.

With the news last week of a prize money injection for the Sydney autumn races, Waller is like many other trainers re-thinking some of the original targets.

Valuable colt Zoustar is among those being aimed at the $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes after establishing himself as the country's superior three-year-old sprinter with victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

That win confirmed his worth at $20 million.

"We've got to start planning now for the autumn," Waller said.

"There's a lot of prize money on offer. Even running fourth in some of these races can earn the owners $100,000.

"Royal Ascot is definitely on the agenda for Zoustar after the autumn."

Zoustar will race in the autumn for new owners Widden Stud and, having had success building him into a stallion, Waller will try to do the same with new acquisition Sizzling.

A Group One winner at two under Brisbane trainer Kelso Wood, Sizzling will be aimed at Group One races in the south.

"We will look at the earlier Group Ones in Melbourne like the Orr Stakes and the Futurity before bringing him back to Sydney," Waller said.

"It's all about improving his value as a stallion."

Waller won this year's Queen Elizabeth Stakes with Reliable Man who is now at stud in New Zealand after injuring himself in that race.

"We have to look at what horses can go to the Queen Elizabeth after maybe running in the Ranvet and BMW or the Doncaster," Waller said.

"There are a lot of options to be considered.

"And we've got five fillies headed to the Oaks which is worth a million dollars now."

The Queen Of The Turf Stakes is now also a $1 million race with Waller's Myer Classic quinella of Red Tracer and Catkins headed there.

The Championships, as the Randwick part of the autumn carnival will be known, offers $18 million over two Saturdays, April 12 and 19.
