Superstar filly Guelph and her promising two year-old half-brother Ghibellines were both winners at the Rosehill trials on Tuesday morning.
Guelph jumped fast and cruised across to lead the trial at a steady gallop before striding away over the final 200 metres to record a 2-3/4 length win in 53.80 seconds for the 900 metres.
"She didn't have a gut buster but she had a good hit-out and did it very easily," jockey Kerrin McEvoy told Racenet.
"She is in great order and will take nice improvement out of the trial."
Peter Snowden has indicated Guelph will have her first race start of the year in the Group II Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 22 and will then progress to the Group II Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick two weeks later before possibly taking her place in the Group I Coolmore Classic (1500m).
Darley are expected to then test Guelph over 2000 metres in the Group I Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill on April 5 with a view to a potential start in the $4 million Group I Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 19.
Fourth in the Listed ATC Breeders Plate at his only start in the spring, the Peter Snowden trained Ghibellines strolled clear to win his 900 metre trial by three lengths.
The son of Shamardal (USA) is one of 155 second acceptors for the Group I ATC Golden Slipper.
The fillies that ran the trifecta in the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes in the spring – Alpha Miss, Tetsuko and Lucky Raquie - were also in action at the trials this morning.
Alpha Miss and Tetsuko filled the quinella in their trial with a head between them and seven lengths back to the third horse, the 900 metres put behind them in 53.1 seconds.
A blue-blooded Encosta de Lago filly that is closely related to leading Blue Diamond fancy Rubick, Lucky Raquie took her trial by half a length over Inglis Nursery winner Mossfun in 53.3 seconds.
