Trainer Peter Morgan ignored the opinion of Eloping's trackwork rider and was rewarded when the filly spaced her rivals in the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush at Bendigo on Saturday.

In a race where $2.4 million yearling purchase Wilderness failed to run place, Eloping ($2.70) took up a front-running position and ended her first campaign the way it started - with a dominant win at the country Victorian track.

Morgan, who co-trains Eloping with Craig Widdison, said he couldn't find any reason not to press on with Eloping to the Gold Rush (1000m) after her last-start unplaced effort at Flemington, other than the advice of her track rider.

"I've been told for a fortnight by our track rider that we're stupid for running her but she hasn't had a day's lameness, she's always licked the (feed) bin out, so why not keep going," Morgan said.

Morgan said Eloping was a real two-year-old but had now earned a break with her six-length win over Jarklin ($14).

Lady Trickster ($71), Eloping's stablemate, sat outside the lead on debut and battled on for third while the David Hayes-trained Wilderness was fourth.

Jockey Stephen Baster and trainer David Hayes haven't lost faith in Wilderness who will step to 1200m at his next start.

"We rode him to keep in touch with the eventual winner and it probably brought him unstuck," Hayes said.
