Two veterans grabbed the limelight in separate races before the Sunshine Coast meeting was washed out on Wednesday.
Stewards pulled the plug on the meeting after race five when continuing rain contributed to poor visibility.
However, it wasn't before trainer Mario Caltabiano and jockey Cyril Small were associated with impressive winners.
Caltabiano reignited a long-time friendship with jockey Bobby El Issa when Budget Bender ($2.30) scored a 4-3/4 lengths win in the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce Handicap (1300m).
Budget Bender was having only his second start after trialling well at Warwick Farm and at the Gold Coast in the lead up to Wednesday's race.
Caltabiano trained for many years at Canterbury and Warwick Farm in Sydney but is based on the Gold Coast.
Small posted an equally easy win on Duke Of Cambridge ($9) who scored by 5-3/4 lengths in the Sunshine Coast Hotels Handicap (1300m).
Duke Of Cambridge was having his first start since being transferred to trainer John Zielke who is slowly rebuilding his team.
"I wish they were all that easy," Small quipped.
There was no more excited winner than owner Sandra McInteer who was smiling broadly when Coruba Queen ($5) won the Kawana Chamber of Commerce Handicap (1300m).
She bred Coruba Queen by sending her mare Madame Wenell to under-rated sire Warhead.
Trainer Len Treloar said Coruba Queen was a perfect example of a horse who would get better with maturity.
"It might be restricted race at Caloundra but for someone to breed and race a winner can be like the Cox Plate," he said.
Trainer Mick Mair believed the addition of a tongue tie had helped Sequaliscious ($8) turn his form around to win the Variety Plate.
